Triptorelin, luteinize edici hormon (LH) ve folikül uyarıcı hormon (FSH) adı verilen diğer hormonların düzeylerini azaltabilen sentetik bir hormondur. Bu hormonlar beyindeki hipofiz bezi tarafından üretilir ve yumurtalıklara veya testislere östrojen ve testosteron gibi seks hormonlarını üretmelerini söyler.

Triptorelin, LH ve FSH'yi düşürerek seks hormonlarının üretimini baskılayabilir. Bu etki belirli tıbbi durumların tedavisinde faydalı olabilir.

Triptorelin, Avrupa'da ilerlemiş prostat kanserinin tedavisi için FDA onaylıdır ancak henüz ABD'de onaylanmamıştır. Triptorelin is a synthetic hormone that may decrease the levels of other hormones called luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). These hormones are made by the pituitary gland in the brain and tell the ovaries or testicles to make sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone.

By lowering LH and FSH, triptorelin may suppress the production of sex hormones. This effect can be useful for treating certain medical conditions.

Triptorelin is FDA-approved for treating advanced prostate cancer in Europe but not yet in the US. In children, triptorelin may potentially treat central precocious puberty, which is when sexual development happens too early in childhood. Triptorelin gets the hormone levels back to what is normal for a child’s age, stopping early puberty. It is approved for this use in the US.
